Interview with the Vice-Chancellor

March 11, 2010

This is an interview with Professor Konrad Morgan, Vice Chancellor of the University of Mauritius, which was made on 1st March 2010.

In this video, the VC talks about key challenges he has already identified at the University, namely communication which he thinks is one of the key issues both within the institution and for the external publics, especially the media. He says that immediate problems which have retained his attention are Internet connection, parking and campus space.

About research, he says that there has been a lot of unfair criticism as he thinks there are areas where worthwhile and relevant work is being done but UOM has probably failed to promote these. He highlights the importance of a systematic strategic approach.

About teaching, the VC says there should be a differentiated approach with targeted allocation of resources and strategic intake rather than blanket increases in enrolment.

Prof Morgan also stressed on the fact that the consultation process with all Faculties and staff is very important in helping shape the strategic directions proposed for UOM.
