The UoM team composed of Ms A Budoo and Ms V Nursimooloo, both LLB (Hons) year 3 students, accompanied by Dr R P Gunput, from the Law Department, participated in Justice P.N. Bhagwati 1st International Moot Court Competition on Human Rights, organised by the Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, New Law College, Pune. This Court competition was held from 11 to 13 March in India with the consent of the Hon. Mr Justice P.N. Bhagwati, one of India’s eminent judges and former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India. The Moot Competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before a Court of Justice.
The two UoM students who participated in the competition were qualified for the quarter final. They climbed the ladder from the semi final to the final where they came second before a jury composed of eminent jurists, professors of law, judges and Indian Advocates. Ms Budoo and Ms Nursimooloo received a trophy and a cash prize.
A special shield was awarded to Dr Gunput for his contribution to the development of Law in Mauritius (treatise, books, articles and newspapers published) and in International Humanitarian Law.
