Counselling Days @ UoM

Counselling Week

Two days after the HSC results were proclaimed, the University of Mauritius, organised its Counselling Days at the Raized Plaza. The event, spanned over 4 days, from 10 to 13 February 2009, proved to be successful and showed a marked improvement in UOM’s marketing strategy and its will to attract more students. The Raised Plaza was transformed into a huge Counselling venue, with counters for each Faculty, Centre and Admission Students and Records Office. Posters on the University’s Application and Admission procedures were placed at strategic points to ensure maximum propagation of information to potential candidates. Computers allowed about 6,000 students attending the event, to access the web page of the Admissions and Student Records Office.

School leavers wishing to embark on university studies have certain expectations for their future. As they are taking one of the biggest decisions in their lives, they need to be aware of the specific criteria and objectives when they choose a programme. Throughout these counselling sessions, an enthusiastic and dedicated team of academics & admissions staff counselled potential candidates in their choice, and explained to parents that getting a seat at the University of Mauritius is solely based on meritocracy.

Finally, the exercise turned out to be one of the most productive recruiting tools for admission. ASRO has to date registered 6100 on-line undergraduate applications. This is a record in UOM history.
